To use AI for Notion form questions, describe the form’s goal to an AI tool, ask for each question with its Notion property type and answer options, then review the list before you add it. Notion Agent can build the whole form for you inside Notion, and any chatbot can draft the questions for free. Either way, check the result, because every question becomes a database property.
Can Notion AI generate form questions by itself?
Notion AI can build a complete form. Notion’s December 3, 2025 release says “Notion Agent can now build beautiful forms in seconds” for requests, feedback and surveys.
The catch is the plan. On the Notion pricing page, Notion Agent is part of Business at $20 per member per month. Free and Plus get only a limited trial of Notion AI. On Free or Plus, once the trial runs out, you draft questions somewhere else and paste them in.
Why AI questions change your database
A Notion form is not a separate document. It’s a view of a database, and each question is a column. The Notion forms help page says changes to form questions sync with property names by default. Add “What time do you prefer?” and a property with that exact name appears in your database.
If an AI hands you twelve chatty questions, you get twelve long, chatty column names. Your table views, filters and formulas then have to work with “What’s the best email to reach you on?” as a header.
You have two fixes:
- Ask the AI for short property names next to each question.
- Turn off
Sync with property namein the question’s•••menu, so the form shows the friendly wording while the column keeps a short name.
A prompt that returns form-ready questions
The best prompt asks for a table, not a paragraph. A table maps straight onto how Notion builds a form, because the help page says the question type “is the equivalent of the property type.”
Here’s a prompt I use for a client intake form:
I’m building a Notion form for a freelance design studio’s new-client intake. The goal is to decide if a project fits and quote it. Write the questions as a table with these columns: question text, short property name, Notion property type (Text, Number, Select, Multi-select, Date, Email, Phone, URL, Checkbox, Files & media), answer options for Select types, and required yes/no. Ask one thing per question. Don’t use leading wording. Put contact details last.
A good answer looks like this:
| Question | Property | Type | Options |
|---|---|---|---|
| What do you need designed? | Project type | Multi-select | Logo, Website, Packaging, Other |
| When do you need it? | Deadline | Date | |
| What’s your budget range? | Budget | Select | Ranges with no overlap |
| Anything we should see first? | References | URL | |
| What’s your email? |
The property column keeps your database tidy. The type column tells you which question type to pick in the builder. For more on matching types, see our guide to mapping form fields to Notion properties.
How to add AI questions to a Notion form
Adding the questions takes a few minutes once the table is right.
- Open the database (or make a new one) and select
+next to your views. - Choose
Form. You needFull accessto the database to do this. - For each row of the AI table, select
+under the last question and type the question. - Set the
Question typefrom the table’s type column. - For Select questions, paste the options from the table.
- Mark the required questions in the
•••menu. - Preview the form and submit a test answer, then check the new row in the database.
If you’ve never built one, our step-by-step guide to creating a Notion form covers the builder screen by screen.
How to check AI-generated questions before you share
AI-generated questions read well, and that’s why they need a second look. SurveyCTO’s checklist puts it plainly: AI “optimizes for topical relevance and fluency, not analytical precision.”
Run these checks on every list:
- One idea per question. Pew Research Center calls questions that rate two concepts “double-barreled” and says they lead to answers that are hard to interpret. Search the list for “and” or “or.” “How happy are you with our speed and quality?” should be two questions.
- No leading wording. “How much did you enjoy the onboarding?” assumes they enjoyed it. “How was the onboarding?” doesn’t.
- Options that don’t overlap. Pew says choice lists should be exhaustive and mutually exclusive. Watch for budget ranges where one range ends on the same figure the next one starts with.
- Order matters. In self-administered surveys, people tend to pick items near the top of a list, per Pew. Don’t let the AI put your favourite answer first.
- Personal questions late. Pew advises against asking things like income or age at the start unless you need them to route people.
Option lists also shape the answers you get. In a Pew poll after the 2008 election, 58% picked the economy when it was offered as a choice, but only 35% named it when asked open-ended. If you’re exploring, ask one open question before you trust the AI’s option list.
Logic, testing and the limits of AI
AI can suggest follow-up questions, but routing them is a separate job. Notion’s help page says conditional logic only works on multiple-choice questions and only on Business and Enterprise plans. If the AI suggests “Ask about hosting only if they picked Website,” you need Business or a different form tool.
SurveyCTO adds that a well-worded question can still produce bad data if the wrong people see it. Test the form yourself, then send it to two or three friendly people first. Pew also calls pretesting “an essential step.” Our conditional logic guide shows how to plan branching.
My take: let AI write the first draft and nothing more. It’s fast at listing what to ask, but it doesn’t know which answers change your decision. Cut every question whose answer you won’t use.
Using AI with a form builder that writes to Notion
Another route is an external form builder that writes each response into your Notion database. nDBForms includes AI-powered form field generation, and it reads your Notion database’s properties to create matching fields, so the question list starts from columns you already have. Its conditional logic is on Pro and works with any Notion plan, which matters if you’re not on Business.
The honest limit: AI suggestions are only as good as your database. If your properties are messy, the form will be too. Clean up the columns first, then generate.
For a ready-made starting point, our client intake form guide lists the questions most studios actually need.
FAQ
Can Notion AI build a form for me?
Yes. Since December 3, 2025, Notion Agent can build forms from a request. Notion Agent is included on the Business plan; Free and Plus workspaces get a limited trial.
Do AI-generated form questions change my Notion database?
Yes, by default. Each form question syncs with a database property, so a new question creates a new property. Toggle off Sync with property name if you want different wording on the form.
Can I use ChatGPT or another chatbot instead of Notion AI?
Yes. Ask it for a table of questions, Notion property types and options, then add them to the form yourself. Notion’s own forms are free to build on every plan.
How do I check AI form questions for bias?
Read each question for leading words, split any question that joins two ideas with ‘and’ or ‘or’, make sure the options don’t overlap, and test the form with a few people before you share it.
