To connect a Tally form to Notion, publish the form, open its Integrations tab and press Connect next to Notion. Log in, allow access to the page that holds your database, pick the database, map each question to a property, then press Connect with Notion. From then on, every new submission becomes a new row.
Before you start: prepare the Notion database
The setup goes faster when the Notion database already exists with one property per question. The integration writes into properties that already exist. It won’t create them.
A simple lead form needs:
- Name as the title property
- Email, an Email property
- A Select property called Budget
- Brief as Text
- Attachments as Files & media
Then give the database a title. Untitled databases don’t show up in the picker at all.
How to connect a Tally form to Notion, step by step
The connection is built from the form builder’s side, using Notion’s public connection system. As of October 2026, Tally’s help center lists these steps, and the integration is “completely free” for every user with unlimited submissions.
- Publish the form. The integration only appears after you publish.
- Open the Integrations tab and press Connect next to Notion.
- Click Log in to Notion, press Select pages, tick the page that contains your database, then press Allow access.
- Name the connection and choose your Notion account.
- Pick the database from the dropdown. If it’s missing, press the refresh button.
- Map each question to a property. Use + Add property for more rows.
- Optionally switch on Export existing responses to sync past submissions.
- Press Connect with Notion.
Then submit a test response from the live form link. A new row should appear with each answer in its mapped property.
What the connection can access in Notion
The integration only sees the pages you share with it. Notion’s connections help article says you “need to add it to the specific page where it will be active.”
The Notion integration gallery listing describes the access as: “Can read, insert, & update pages, databases, and blocks shared with this connection.” The same page also warns: “Unless specifically designated as Made by Notion, connections are not supported or maintained by Notion.” If the sync breaks, support comes from the form builder, not Notion.
To add the connection from inside Notion instead, open the page’s ••• menu, then More. “In the Connections group, select Add connections,” search for the form builder and select it. To cut access later, hover the connection’s name and press Disconnect.
On Enterprise, “Workspace owners can restrict which connections members are allowed to install.” If the option is greyed out, ask your workspace owner.
Which question types map to which properties
Each question maps to exactly one Notion property, and the property type has to fit. The vendor’s mapping table, summarized:
| Question type | Notion property |
|---|---|
| Short answer, Long answer, Time | Text |
| Phone | Phone |
| Date | Date |
| Multiple choice, Dropdown | Select or Status |
| Checkboxes | Multi-select |
| Number, Rating, Linear scale | Number |
| File upload, Signature | Files & media |
Person and Relation properties aren’t supported. The vendor suggests a workaround through Make. If your database assigns an owner with a Person property, or links each response to a Client page with a Relation, the native mapping won’t fill those columns.
Fixing a connection that doesn’t work
Most failed setups come down to access, titles or property types.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Database not in the dropdown | Page not shared with the connection | Add the connection to the page, then press refresh |
| Database still missing | Database has no title | Give it a title, then refresh |
| Owner or linked-record column stays empty | Person or Relation property | Use a workaround or a builder that supports them |
| Times look hours off | Times export in UTC | Add a Formula with dateAdd(prop("Date"), X, "hours") |
| New responses stopped arriving | Sync failing | Check the event log (clock icon) and your inbox |
On that last row: the form builder emails you the first time a sync starts failing, with “the reason and a link to fix it.” If databases vanish from the picker, the docs say to check the pages shared under My connections in your Notion settings.
My take: build the database first, connect second. Adding columns halfway through mapping is fiddly, and it’s how you end up with a Text property where you wanted a Select.
When a direct Notion form builder fits better
A builder that starts from your Notion database skips the mapping step entirely. nDBForms reads your database properties and generates matching fields, so the form and the table can’t drift apart.
nDBForms has 17 question types, including Notion relation and Notion people, so those columns fill straight from the form. File uploads up to 10 MB go to your own Google Drive, with the link written to the Notion page (Pro). Respondents don’t need a Notion account.
The limitation: nDBForms keeps a copy of each response in its own database for the dashboard and for retrying failed Notion writes, so your data doesn’t live only in Notion. The Free plan stops at 3 forms and 100 responses a month, and logic and multi-page forms need Pro, from a $12/month founding price.
Does Notion have a form builder compares native forms with add-ons, and limitations of Notion forms lists what the built-in version can’t do. For long questionnaires, see whether a Notion form can have multiple pages, and for attachments, the Notion form file upload guide.
FAQ
Is the Tally Notion integration free?
Yes. The vendor’s help center says the Notion integration is completely free for all its users with unlimited submissions.
Why doesn’t my Notion database show up in the dropdown?
The connection can only see pages you shared with it, and databases without a title aren’t listed. Add the connection to the page that holds the database, give the database a title, then press refresh.
Can the integration fill a Person or Relation property?
No. Person and Relation properties aren’t supported by the native mapping. The vendor points to a workaround through Make, or you can use a form builder that maps those property types directly.
Can I send old responses to Notion after connecting?
Yes. Turn on Export existing responses while you set up the connection and past submissions are synced to the database too.
